Tapentadol

Tapentadol is a strong opioid painkiller. It works in two ways, by acting on opioid receptors and by boosting the body's own pain-blocking signals.

What Tapentadol Is Used For

• Moderate to severe short-term pain, such as after surgery or injury
• Long-term severe pain, including back pain
• Painful diabetic nerve damage (extended-release forms)

Common Side Effects

• Nausea and vomiting
• Dizziness and drowsiness
• Constipation
• Headache
• Dry mouth

Precautions

Tapentadol can cause dependence and slowed breathing, so use it only as prescribed and never share it. Do not drink alcohol or take other sedatives with it. Tell your doctor if you have epilepsy, breathing problems or take antidepressants. Do not stop long-term use suddenly.
