Preloft 50mg Tablet contains the active ingredient sertraline, which belongs to a class of medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is primarily used in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Components:

• Sertraline: Sertraline works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain that plays a key role in regulating mood, emotions, and behavior. By blocking the reuptake of serotonin, sertraline helps to prolong the effects of serotonin in the brain, thereby relieving symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Uses:

• Depression: Preloft 50mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults and pediatric patients aged 6 to 17 years.
• Anxiety Disorders: It is also used for the treatment of various anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (SAD), and panic disorder (PD).
• Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Sertraline is effective in the treatment of OCD, a condition characterized by recurring thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions).
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Preloft 50mg Tablet may be prescribed for the management of PTSD, a mental health condition triggered by a traumatic event.
• Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD): It is indicated for the treatment of PMDD, a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that causes significant distress and impairment in daily functioning.

Dosage and Administration:

• The recommended starting dose of Preloft 50mg Tablet for adults with depression or OCD is 50 mg once daily, taken either in the morning or evening.
• The dosage may be gradually increased under the supervision of a healthcare provider based on individual response and tolerability, up to a maximum of 200 mg per day for depression and 200 mg per day for OCD.
• For other indications such as anxiety disorders, panic disorder, PTSD, and PMDD, the recommended starting dose and titration schedule may vary. Dosage adjustments should be made carefully and guided by clinical response.
• Preloft 50mg Tablet should be taken orally with or without food, as directed by the healthcare provider.
• It may take several weeks for the full therapeutic effects of sertraline to be realized. Patients should continue taking the medication as prescribed even if they start to feel better.

Precautions:

• Suicidal Thoughts and Behavior: Patients, especially those under the age of 25, should be closely monitored for signs of suicidal ideation or behavior when initiating treatment with sertraline or when the dosage is adjusted.
• Serotonin Syndrome: Sertraline, like other SSRIs, may rarely cause serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by symptoms such as agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, shivering, rapid heartbeat, and muscle twitching. This risk may increase when sertraline is taken concomitantly with other serotonergic medications.
• Withdrawal Symptoms: Abrupt discontinuation of sertraline may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, headache, irritability, insomnia, and sensory disturbances. It is recommended to taper the dosage gradually under medical supervision when discontinuing treatment.
• Pregnancy and Lactation: Sertraline should be used with caution during pregnancy, especially during the third trimester, as it may cause adverse effects in the newborn. It may also be excreted in breast milk; therefore, breastfeeding should be avoided during sertraline treatment.

Side Effects:

• Common side effects of Preloft 50mg Tablet may include nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, sweating, headache, and sexual dysfunction.
• Less common but potentially serious side effects may include hyponatremia (low sodium levels), bleeding abnormalities, seizures, and manic episodes.

• Store Preloft 50mg Tablet at room temperature (20-25°C) away from moisture and heat.
• Keep out of reach of children and pets.
