Remdesivir is an antiviral medication used primarily in the treatment of certain viral infections, including severe cases of COVID-19. It belongs to a class of drugs called nucleotide analogues, which work by interfering with the replication process of viruses.

Remdesivir was initially developed for the treatment of Ebola virus disease but has since been repurposed for use against other viral infections, including coronaviruses such as SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
