Trihexyphenidyl, also known as benzhexol, blocks acetylcholine in the brain to rebalance it against dopamine. That helps tremor and stiffness, particularly the movement side effects caused by antipsychotic medicines.

What Trihexyphenidyl Is Used For

Stiffness, tremor and restlessness caused by antipsychotic medicines
Parkinson disease, mainly for tremor
Excess drooling in some conditions
Certain dystonias

Common Side Effects

Dry mouth
Blurred vision
Constipation
Confusion or memory problems, particularly in older adults

Precautions

It is not suitable in glaucoma or with difficulty passing urine from an enlarged prostate. Older adults are much more prone to confusion, falls and memory problems with this class. Do not stop it abruptly after long use. It is sometimes misused, so it should be taken only as prescribed and kept securely.
