Regular (soluble) insulin is a short-acting insulin that lowers blood sugar. It is used in diabetes, often alongside longer-acting insulin.

What Insulin (Regular) Is Used For

  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes needing insulin
  • Controlling blood sugar around meals

Common Side Effects

  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
  • Weight gain
  • Reaction at the injection site

Precautions

Learn the warning signs of low blood sugar – sweating, shakiness, hunger, confusion – and keep something sugary to hand. Do not skip meals after your dose, rotate injection sites, and store insulin as directed. Your doctor or diabetes nurse will guide dose adjustments.
