LACTULOSE
Lactulose is a gentle laxative that softens the stool by drawing water into the bowel. It is used for constipation and works over a day or two.
What Lactulose Is Used For
- Constipation
- Keeping stools soft when straining should be avoided
Common Side Effects
- Wind and bloating, especially at first
- Stomach cramps
- Loose motions if the dose is high
Precautions
Lactulose can take a day or two to work, so do not increase the dose too quickly. Drink plenty of water. If constipation is ongoing, or comes with stomach pain, weight loss or a change in bowel habit, see a doctor to look into the cause.
