Bacillus clausii
Bacillus clausii is a probiotic supplied as spores, which survive stomach acid and, unusually, resist several antibiotics. That resistance is why it is often taken during an antibiotic course to protect the gut flora.
What Bacillus Clausii Is Used For
- Diarrhoea associated with antibiotics
- Acute diarrhoea in children and adults
- Restoring gut flora after a gut infection
- Bloating and general digestive upset
Common Side Effects
- Bloating or gas in the first days
- Mild stomach discomfort
- Change in stool pattern
Precautions
Probiotics support rehydration in diarrhoea, they do not replace it, so oral rehydration salts remain the priority. Check the storage instructions, as some presentations need cool storage. It is not suitable for people with a seriously weakened immune system or a central line without medical advice. Blood in the stool, high fever or dehydration needs a doctor.
