Betahistine improves blood flow in the inner ear and acts on the histamine receptors involved in balance. It is used to reduce the frequency and severity of vertigo attacks, particularly in Meniere disease.

Precautions

Take it with or after food to reduce stomach upset. Benefit builds over weeks to months, so it is a preventive rather than a rescue treatment during an attack. Tell your doctor about asthma or a history of stomach ulcers. Sudden hearing loss on one side, vertigo with double vision, weakness, slurred speech or a severe headache needs urgent assessment, as those point elsewhere.
