Bilastine
Bilastine is a newer antihistamine that barely enters the brain, so it relieves allergy symptoms with very little drowsiness. It works within an hour and lasts through the day on a single dose.
What Bilastine Is Used For
- Allergic rhinitis, with sneezing, runny nose and itchy eyes
- Chronic urticaria and itchy skin
- Dust, pollen and pet allergy
- Long term allergy control where drowsiness must be avoided
Common Side Effects
- Headache
- Drowsiness, uncommonly
- Dry mouth
- Stomach discomfort
Precautions
Food and fruit juice reduce how much bilastine is absorbed, so it is taken an hour before or two hours after a meal. Avoid grapefruit juice with it. If allergy symptoms need daily treatment for months, it is worth identifying the trigger with your doctor rather than treating indefinitely. Sudden facial swelling or breathing difficulty is an emergency, not a job for tablets.
