BROMELAIN AND TRYPSIN
Bromelain comes from pineapple and trypsin is a digestive enzyme. Taken as enteric coated tablets, the combination is used to help clear the products of inflammation, which reduces swelling and bruising after injury or surgery.
What Bromelain and Trypsin Are Used For
- Swelling and bruising after injury or surgery
- Sprains, strains and sports injuries
- Swelling after dental procedures
- Supportive treatment in some inflammatory conditions
Common Side Effects
- Nausea and stomach discomfort
- Loose motions
- Change in stool smell or colour
- Allergic reaction in people sensitive to pineapple
Precautions
Tablets are enteric coated so they survive the stomach, which means swallowing them whole on an empty stomach. They may add to the effect of blood thinners, so tell your doctor if you take warfarin or aspirin, and stop before planned surgery unless advised otherwise. They support recovery alongside rest, ice and elevation rather than replacing treatment of the injury.
