Levalbuterol is the active half of salbutamol, separated out on the reasoning that it may cause fewer effects such as tremor and palpitations. It opens the airways within minutes and is used as a reliever.

Precautions

Needing a reliever more than two or three times a week means the underlying condition is not controlled and the plan needs reviewing. Learn your inhaler technique and use a spacer where appropriate. Seek emergency help if a reliever is not easing an attack. Tell your doctor about heart rhythm problems, thyroid disease or diabetes.
