  • Urinary tract infections
  • Chronic bronchitis flare ups
  • Preventing infection before some urinary procedures
  • Eye drops for bacterial eye infection

Common Side Effects

  • Marked sensitivity to sunlight
  • Nausea and loose motions
  • Headache and dizziness
  • Trouble sleeping

Precautions

Sun sensitivity is pronounced with this antibiotic, so avoid direct sun and sunbeds during the course and for several days after. Stop and contact your doctor for tendon pain, particularly at the heel, or new numbness and tingling. Take it several hours apart from antacids, iron and calcium. Fluoroquinolones are reserved for infections where simpler antibiotics are unsuitable.
