METHOTREXATE
Methotrexate is a disease-modifying medicine (DMARD) used for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis and some other conditions. For these uses it is usually taken once a WEEK, not daily.
What Methotrexate Is Used For
- Rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis
- Severe psoriasis
- Some other immune conditions, under specialist care
Common Side Effects
- Nausea
- Mouth ulcers
- Tiredness
Precautions
The most important safety point is that, for arthritis and psoriasis, methotrexate is taken once a WEEK – taking it daily by mistake is dangerous. Your doctor will arrange regular blood tests, and a folic acid supplement is usually prescribed. It must not be used in pregnancy.
