POLYVINYL
Polyvinyl alcohol is a synthetic polymer used in artificial tears. It spreads thinly over the eye surface and holds moisture there, relieving dryness, and it blurs vision less than thicker gel preparations.
What Polyvinyl Alcohol Is Used For
- Dry, gritty or tired eyes
- Eye strain from screens, air conditioning or dust
- Comfort with contact lens wear
- Lubrication after eye examination or minor procedures
Common Side Effects
- Brief blurring after instilling
- Mild stinging
- Eye irritation, uncommonly
Precautions
Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye or lashes, and note the discard period once the bottle is opened. If you need drops more than four to six times a day, preservative free single use vials are gentler on the eye surface. Pain, persistent redness, discharge or reduced vision is not simple dryness and needs an eye examination.
