Estradiol Valerate & Norgestrel
This product pairs an oestrogen, estradiol valerate, with a progestogen, norgestrel. The combination is used to regulate the menstrual cycle and, in hormone replacement, to replace the hormones that fall after menopause while protecting the lining of the womb.
What It Is Used For
- Hormone replacement for menopausal symptoms
- Irregular or absent periods
- Cycle regulation on medical advice
- Some combined contraceptive preparations
Common Side Effects
- Nausea and breast tenderness
- Headache
- Breakthrough bleeding or spotting
- Mood changes and fluid retention
Precautions
Combined hormones raise the risk of blood clots, so tell your doctor about smoking, migraine with aura, previous clots, high blood pressure or a long period of immobility. Report calf pain or swelling, chest pain, breathlessness, severe headache or sudden visual change immediately. It is a prescription medicine that needs periodic review, not an indefinite repeat.
