A hormonal contraceptive is a type of birth control method that uses hormones to prevent pregnancy. These contraceptives work by altering the body’s natural hormone levels to prevent ovulation (the release of eggs from the ovaries), thicken cervical mucus to impede sperm movement, and thin the uterine lining to prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg.
