Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analogue that improves the drainage of fluid from the eye, lowering the pressure inside it. It is one of the most effective single drops for glaucoma and is used once daily in the evening.

Common Side Effects

Redness of the eye
Longer, thicker, darker eyelashes
Permanent darkening of the iris in light coloured eyes
Darkening of the eyelid skin and a hollowed look around the eye

Precautions

The change in iris colour is gradual and does not reverse, which matters most when only one eye is treated. Wipe away any drop that runs onto the cheek to avoid unwanted hair growth there. Use it once a day only, since more frequent use works less well. Remove contact lenses first and leave five minutes between different drops.
