CARBAMAZEPINE
Carbamazepine is used to control epilepsy and certain types of nerve pain, and to stabilise mood in some conditions. The dose is built up gradually.

- Epilepsy, to control seizures
- Nerve pain such as trigeminal neuralgia
- Mood stabilisation in bipolar disorder
Common Side Effects
- Drowsiness and dizziness
- Nausea
- Double vision
- Skin rash
Precautions
Tell your doctor straight away about any new skin rash, especially in the first weeks, as serious skin reactions can occur. Never stop carbamazepine suddenly, as this can trigger seizures. It interacts with many medicines, so give your doctor a full list of what you take.
