FERROUS SULPHATE
Ferrous sulphate is an iron supplement used to treat and prevent iron-deficiency anaemia. It replaces the iron the body needs to make healthy red blood cells.
What Ferrous Sulphate Is Used For
- Iron-deficiency anaemia
- Low iron in pregnancy
- Preventing iron deficiency where diet is not enough
Common Side Effects
- Constipation or loose motions
- Darkening of the stools (harmless)
- Stomach upset
Precautions
Take iron as your doctor directs and keep it well out of reach of children, as iron overdose is dangerous for young children. It absorbs better on an empty stomach but can be taken with food if it upsets the stomach. Tea and coffee reduce absorption.
