IRON SUCROSE

Iron sucrose is an injectable form of iron given by a drip or injection to treat iron-deficiency anaemia. It is used when iron tablets are not suitable or not enough.

What Iron Sucrose Is Used For

• Iron-deficiency anaemia
• When iron tablets are not tolerated or not effective
• Iron replacement in kidney disease

Common Side Effects

• Metallic taste during the injection
• Temporary low blood pressure
• Reaction at the injection site

Precautions

Iron sucrose is given by medical staff, who watch for any reaction during the infusion. Tell them about any previous reaction to iron injections. It is only given after a confirmed diagnosis of iron deficiency, not as a general tonic.
