Levamisole paralyses intestinal worms so they are passed out in the stool. It also has an effect on the immune system, which is why specialists sometimes use it in children with relapsing nephrotic syndrome.

Precautions

For worms it is a short treatment, and household hygiene, hand washing and clean drinking water prevent reinfection better than repeated doses. When it is used long term for kidney disease, blood counts are monitored, and any fever, sore throat or mouth ulcers must be reported at once. Do not use it repeatedly without medical advice.
