NIFEDIPINE

Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes and widens blood vessels. It is used for high blood pressure and to prevent angina.

What Nifedipine Is Used For

• High blood pressure
• Angina (chest pain)
• Raynaud’s phenomenon (cold, colour-changing fingers)

Common Side Effects

• Flushing
• Headache
• Ankle swelling

Precautions

Ankle swelling and flushing are common at first and often settle. Take the slow-release form whole, without crushing. Do not stop it on your own, as blood pressure can rise again. Grapefruit juice can raise the level of nifedipine in the body, so avoid it.
