ORAL REHYDRATION SALT
Oral rehydration salts contain glucose and salts in the proportion that lets the gut absorb water fastest, even while diarrhoea continues. It is one of the most important medicines there is, and it prevents most deaths from diarrhoea.
What ORS Is Used For
- Dehydration from diarrhoea and vomiting
- Fluid replacement in children with gastroenteritis
- Dehydration from heat and heavy sweating
- Fluid loss during fever
Using It Correctly

- Do not add sugar, and do not make it stronger or weaker
- Give small sips frequently rather than large amounts at once
- Discard a prepared solution after twenty four hours
