Trisodium citrate dihydrate is a citrate salt that makes urine less acidic. That eases the burning of cystitis, helps prevent certain kidney stones, and it also appears in oral rehydration salts and as an anticoagulant in blood collection.

Precautions

Alkalinising sachets ease symptoms but do not kill bacteria, so a urine infection still needs proper assessment and often an antibiotic. The sodium content makes them unsuitable for people with high blood pressure, heart failure or kidney disease without advice. See a doctor for fever, back pain, blood in the urine, or symptoms lasting more than two days.
