This topical combination pairs two antibiotics, bacitracin and polymyxin B, with lignocaine, a local anaesthetic. The antibiotics cover a broad range of skin bacteria while the lignocaine numbs the area to relieve pain.

What This Combination Is Used For

  • Painful minor wounds, cuts and grazes
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Infected or sore skin lesions
  • Dressing changes where discomfort is an issue

Common Side Effects

  • Stinging on application
  • Local redness or itching
  • Contact allergy

Precautions

Apply a thin layer to clean skin and do not use it over large areas or for long periods, as absorbed lignocaine and polymyxin can cause problems. Keep it out of the eyes. It is for minor injuries only. Deep, dirty or animal bite wounds, spreading redness, fever or pus need medical care rather than an ointment.
