BENZYDAMIN MOUTH WASH
Benzydamine is an anti inflammatory that also numbs the surface it touches. As a mouthwash or throat spray it works locally on painful, inflamed tissue, so it eases pain without the whole body effects of tablets.
What Benzydamine Mouthwash Is Used For
- Sore throat and tonsillitis pain
- Mouth ulcers
- Gum inflammation and soreness after dental work
- Mouth soreness during chemotherapy or radiotherapy
Common Side Effects
- Numbness or stinging in the mouth
- Dry mouth
- Altered taste
- Nausea if swallowed
Precautions
It is meant to be gargled and spat out, not swallowed. If the sting is uncomfortable, diluting it with an equal amount of water helps. It is not usually recommended for young children unless a doctor advises. A sore throat with high fever, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or one lasting more than a week needs to be seen rather than managed with a gargle.
