Calcium pantothenate is the stable salt form of pantothenic acid, vitamin B5. The body uses it to release energy from food and to build fats and hormones. True deficiency is rare, so it appears mostly in B complex and skin preparations.

What Calcium Pantothenate Is Used For

  • Vitamin B5 deficiency
  • Part of B complex and multivitamin formulations
  • Support for skin and hair products, often as panthenol
  • Tiredness linked to poor diet, alongside other B vitamins

Common Side Effects

  • Loose motions at high amounts
  • Nausea
  • Mild stomach discomfort

Precautions

It is water soluble and generally well tolerated, but that is not a reason to take large amounts indefinitely. Persistent tiredness is worth investigating properly, since anaemia, thyroid problems and vitamin B12 or D deficiency are far more common causes in Pakistan than B5 deficiency. Tell your doctor what supplements you take before surgery or blood tests.
