CALCIUM+VITAMIN D
Calcium builds and maintains bone, while vitamin D is what allows the body to absorb that calcium from the gut. The two are sold together because calcium on its own is poorly used when vitamin D is low, which is common in Pakistan even in sunny months.
What Calcium and Vitamin D Are Used For
- Preventing and treating low bone density and osteoporosis
- Supporting bone health in pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Correcting a diet low in milk, yoghurt and other calcium sources
- Supporting recovery alongside treatment for vitamin D deficiency
Common Side Effects
- Constipation and bloating
- Gas or mild stomach discomfort
- Chalky taste with chewable tablets
Precautions
Tell your doctor if you have kidney stones, kidney disease or a high blood calcium level, as extra calcium may not be suitable. Calcium can reduce the absorption of some antibiotics and thyroid tablets, so those are usually spaced a few hours apart. More is not better with vitamin D, and long term high doses should only be taken under supervision.
