CHOLINE ALFOSERATE
Choline alfoscerate, also written as choline alfoserate, supplies choline to the brain, where it is used to make acetylcholine, a messenger involved in memory and learning. It is prescribed as supportive treatment rather than a cure.
What Choline Alfoscerate Is Used For
- Memory and concentration problems in older adults
- Supportive treatment in mild cognitive decline and dementia
- Recovery after a stroke, on medical advice
Common Side Effects
- Nausea
- Heartburn or stomach discomfort
- Headache
- Restlessness or trouble sleeping
Precautions
Evidence for benefit is modest and varies between studies, so it should not replace the treatments your doctor has prescribed. Any new or worsening confusion, personality change or difficulty with daily tasks needs proper assessment rather than a supplement. Tell your doctor about all other brain and mood medicines you take.
