CICLOPIROXOLAMINE TOPICAL
Ciclopirox olamine is a broad antifungal that also has some antibacterial and anti inflammatory action. It comes as a cream, a shampoo for dandruff, and a lacquer painted onto fungal nails.
What Ciclopirox Olamine Is Used For
- Ringworm, athletes foot and jock itch
- Fungal nail infection, as a nail lacquer
- Dandruff and seborrhoeic dermatitis, as a shampoo
- Fungal infection in skin folds
Common Side Effects
- Burning or stinging where applied
- Redness and itching
- Dryness or peeling
- Nail discolouration with the lacquer
Precautions
Skin infections need one to two weeks of treatment beyond the point where the rash looks clear. Nail infections are slow, often needing six months or more of daily lacquer, and severe nail infection usually needs oral treatment instead. Keep feet dry, change socks daily, and do not share towels or slippers.
