CINITAPRIDE
Cinitapride is a prokinetic medicine. It encourages the stomach and upper gut to move their contents along, which relieves the fullness, bloating and reflux that come with sluggish emptying.
What Cinitapride Is Used For
- Bloating, early fullness and heaviness after meals
- Functional dyspepsia
- Reflux symptoms, often alongside an acid reducing medicine
- Slow stomach emptying, including in diabetes
Common Side Effects
- Loose motions or stomach cramps
- Drowsiness
- Headache
- Breast tenderness or discharge with longer use
Precautions
It is usually taken before meals so that it is working when food arrives. Report any unusual stiffness, restlessness or involuntary movements of the face and tongue, as these need the medicine reviewed. It is not suitable if there is bleeding, blockage or perforation in the gut, and persistent indigestion with weight loss or vomiting should be investigated properly.
