Diacerein is used for the pain and stiffness of osteoarthritis. It works slowly on the joint over weeks, so it is taken regularly rather than for quick relief.

• Osteoarthritis, especially of the hip and knee
• Long-term joint pain and stiffness

Common Side Effects

• Loose motions, especially at first
• Yellowish urine (harmless)
• Stomach discomfort

Precautions

Loose motions are common in the first weeks and often settle – tell your doctor if they are severe. Diacerein works gradually, so it is not for sudden pain relief. Tell your doctor about any bowel or liver problems before starting.
