Diflucortolone is a potent topical corticosteroid. It suppresses the inflammation that causes redness, swelling and itching in skin disease, and because it is strong it is used in short courses on limited areas.

What Diflucortolone Is Used For

Severe eczema and dermatitis
Psoriasis on the body, on medical advice
Lichen planus and other stubborn inflammatory rashes
Flare ups not settling with a milder steroid

Common Side Effects

Burning or stinging when first applied
Thinning of the skin with prolonged use
Stretch marks and visible small blood vessels
Acne or increased hair at the site

Precautions

Potent steroids are not for the face, groin or armpits unless a doctor specifically directs it, and not for young children without advice. Apply a thin layer only to affected skin for the period prescribed, then step down to a milder preparation. Do not use it on infected or fungal rashes, as it makes them worse while masking the appearance.
