FLAVOXATE
Flavoxate relaxes the muscle of the bladder wall, which reduces the sudden squeezing that causes urgency, frequency and pain. It treats the symptom rather than the underlying cause, so a diagnosis is still needed.
What Flavoxate Is Used For
- Urgency and needing to pass urine very often
- Bladder spasm and pain, including after urinary procedures
- Painful urination alongside treatment for a urine infection
- Some cases of urge incontinence
Common Side Effects
- Dry mouth
- Blurred vision
- Drowsiness or headache
- Nausea
Precautions
It is not an antibiotic, so a urine infection still needs the proper treatment. Tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, or difficulty passing urine, as these can be made worse. Avoid driving until you know how it affects your vision and alertness. Blood in the urine or fever with back pain needs urgent attention.
