LEVOFLOXACIN
Levofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for infections that need a broad-spectrum medicine. It is available as tablets and as an infusion for hospital use.
What Levofloxacin Is Used For
- Chest infections, including pneumonia and bronchitis
- Urinary tract and kidney infections
- Sinus infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
Common Side Effects
- Nausea, diarrhoea or stomach upset
- Headache and dizziness
- Difficulty sleeping
- Uncommonly, pain or swelling in a tendon
Precautions
Stop the medicine and contact your doctor straight away if you develop tendon pain, numbness or tingling. Antacids, iron and calcium supplements block levofloxacin from being absorbed, so keep a gap of at least two hours between them. This medicine is usually avoided in children and during pregnancy.
