Loteprednol is a corticosteroid eye drop designed to break down quickly once it has acted, which lowers the risk of raising eye pressure compared with older steroid drops. It settles inflammation on the surface and front of the eye.

What Loteprednol Drops Are Used For

Inflammation after eye surgery
Allergic conjunctivitis not settling with antihistamine drops
Inflammatory conditions of the front of the eye
Dry eye with inflammation, in short courses

Common Side Effects

Blurred vision briefly after instilling
Stinging or burning
Raised eye pressure with prolonged use
Increased risk of eye infection

Precautions

Steroid eye drops need supervision by an eye doctor, and eye pressure is checked if they are used beyond a couple of weeks. They must not be used in an untreated eye infection, particularly herpes of the eye, where they can cause serious damage. Shake the bottle, do not touch the tip to the eye, and never continue a leftover bottle for a new problem.
