Metoclopramide reduces nausea by acting on the vomiting centre in the brain and speeds the passage of food out of the stomach. The resinate form is a slower releasing preparation of the same medicine.

Nausea and vomiting

Nausea after surgery or with chemotherapy

Common Side Effects

Drowsiness and tiredness
Restlessness
Loose motions
Involuntary muscle spasms of the face, neck or eyes

Precautions

Treatment is deliberately kept short, generally up to five days, because movement side effects become more likely with longer use. Younger people are more prone to the muscle spasms, which need urgent medical attention but are treatable. It is not suitable where there is bleeding, blockage or perforation in the gut. Report any involuntary movement of the face or tongue.
