Minoxidil is applied to the scalp to help slow hair loss and encourage regrowth. It is available as a solution and foam.

What Minoxidil Is Used For

  • Male and female pattern hair loss
  • Thinning hair on the scalp

Common Side Effects

  • Scalp dryness or itching
  • Unwanted hair growth if it spreads to other areas
  • Mild irritation

Precautions

Apply minoxidil only to a dry scalp and wash your hands afterwards to avoid it spreading to the face. It needs regular, ongoing use to keep its effect – hair loss returns if you stop. It can take a few months to see results, and some shedding early on is normal.
