MULTIMINERAL
Multimineral supplements supply the minerals the body needs in small but essential amounts, typically calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, selenium and iodine. They are used to fill gaps in the diet rather than to treat a diagnosed deficiency.
What You Will Find Here
- Multimineral tablets and capsules
- Combined multivitamin and multimineral formulas
- Products aimed at bone, immunity or general support
- Syrups and chewables for children
What To Check Before Buying
- The amount of each mineral against normal daily needs
- Whether it duplicates something you already take
- Iron content, if you are not known to be deficient
Precautions
Minerals compete with each other for absorption and with several medicines, notably thyroid tablets and some antibiotics, so keep them a couple of hours apart. A diagnosed deficiency needs the specific mineral at a treatment amount, not a general multimineral. Do not stack several supplements containing the same minerals, and keep anything containing iron well away from children.
