Polyacrylic acid, known in eye products as carbomer, forms a clear gel that clings to the eye surface far longer than watery drops. That longer contact makes it useful for moderate to severe dry eye and for overnight use.

  • Moderate to severe dry eye
  • Night time eye lubrication
  • Dryness where ordinary drops do not last long enough
  • A thickener in creams, gels and other preparations

Common Side Effects

  • Blurred vision for several minutes after use, more than with drops
  • Sticky lashes
  • Mild stinging

Precautions

Because it blurs vision, it is often best used at bedtime, and you should not drive straight after applying it. Do not touch the tube tip to the eye, and note the discard period after opening. Remove contact lenses first unless the product says otherwise. Persistent redness, pain, discharge or reduced vision needs an eye examination rather than more lubricant.
