Sumatriptan is a triptan medicine for migraine. It narrows swollen blood vessels in the head and blocks pain signals, easing the headache and related symptoms.
Sumatriptan treats a migraine attack; it does not prevent migraines. Do not use it if you have heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure or a history of stroke. Tell your doctor if you take antidepressants, as combining them can rarely cause serotonin syndrome.
