GLICLAZIDE

Gliclazide belongs to the sulfonylurea group of diabetes medicines. It works by helping the pancreas release more of its own insulin, and is taken with meals.

What Gliclazide Is Used For

• Type 2 diabetes in adults
• Often combined with metformin when one medicine is not enough

Common Side Effects

• Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)
• Weight gain
• Nausea or stomach discomfort

Precautions

The main thing to watch for is low blood sugar. Do not skip meals after your dose, and learn the warning signs: sweating, shakiness, hunger, confusion or a racing heart. Keep something sugary with you. Older adults and anyone with kidney or liver problems need closer monitoring.
