Description

RHOPHYLAC (ANTI D) is a medication containing human anti-D (Rh) immunoglobulin. It is derived from human blood plasma and is used to prevent complications related to Rh incompatibility. Rhophylac is specifically indicated for Rh-negative individuals who are at risk of developing an immune response to the Rh-positive blood cells. It works by suppressing the immune response and preventing the production of antibodies that could harm the fetus during pregnancy or cause transfusion reactions.

Uses:
  1. Prevention of hemolytic disease of the newborn: Rhophylac is administered to Rh-negative pregnant women who are carrying an Rh-positive fetus. It helps prevent the development of antibodies in the mother’s blood that could harm the fetus in subsequent pregnancies.
  2. Prevention of Rh immunization after transfusion: Rhophylac is given to Rh-negative individuals after a transfusion of Rh-positive blood. It helps prevent the production of Rh antibodies in the recipient’s blood.
Side Effects:
  1. Injection site reactions: Common side effects of Rhophylac include pain, redness, swelling, or itching at the injection site. These reactions are usually mild and temporary.
  2. Allergic reactions: Although rare, allergic reactions to Rhophylac can occur. Signs of an allergic reaction may include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. Immediate medical attention should be sought if any signs of an allergic reaction appear.
When Not to Use:
  1. Hypersensitivity: Rhophylac should not be used in individuals with a known allergy or hypersensitivity to human immunoglobulin or any of its components.
  2. Rh-positive individuals: Rhophylac is specifically indicated for Rh-negative individuals and should not be used in Rh-positive individuals.
  3. Active hemolysis: Rhophylac should not be used in individuals with evidence of active hemolysis, as it may not provide the desired immune suppression.
