Fosfomycin is an antibiotic used mainly for urinary tract infections. A common convenience is that simple bladder infections can often be treated with a single sachet.

What Fosfomycin Is Used For

  • Urinary tract infections, especially in women
  • Simple bladder infections

Common Side Effects

  • Loose motions
  • Nausea
  • Headache

Precautions

Fosfomycin sachets are dissolved in water and usually taken on an empty stomach, ideally at bedtime after emptying the bladder. Even though one dose can be enough, see a doctor if symptoms do not improve, or if you have fever or back pain, which may mean a deeper infection.
