AZITHROMYCIN
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic known for its short treatment courses, often just three to five days, because it stays active in the body for several days.
What Azithromycin Is Used For
- Chest infections and pneumonia
- Throat, tonsil and sinus infections
- Ear infections in children
- Certain skin infections
Common Side Effects
- Nausea and abdominal pain
- Diarrhoea
- Occasional headache
Precautions
Complete the full course even though it is short. Tell your doctor if you have a known heart rhythm problem or are taking medicines for the heart, as azithromycin can affect the heart’s electrical rhythm in some people. Antacids should not be taken at the same time as the dose.
