Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against a wide range of bacteria. It comes as tablets, infusion, eye drops and ear drops.

What Ciprofloxacin Is Used For

  • Urinary tract and kidney infections
  • Typhoid and some gut infections
  • Skin, bone and joint infections
  • Eye and ear infections, in drop form

Common Side Effects

  • Nausea and loose motions
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Uncommonly, tendon pain or swelling

Precautions

Keep a gap of at least two hours between ciprofloxacin and any antacid, milk, or iron and calcium supplement, otherwise much less of the medicine is absorbed. Your skin may burn more easily in the sun. Contact your doctor if you develop tendon pain or any numbness and tingling.
