Precautions

Sodium valproate must not be used in pregnancy as it can seriously harm a baby, so anyone who could become pregnant needs reliable contraception and specialist advice. Never stop it suddenly, as this can trigger seizures. Tell your doctor about severe stomach pain, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
