EPHEDRINE NAPHAZOLINE
Both ephedrine and naphazoline narrow the swollen blood vessels inside the nose, which opens the airway within minutes. They are used as drops or spray for short term relief of a blocked nose and are not a treatment for the underlying cause.
What Ephedrine and Naphazoline Drops Are Used For
- Blocked nose during a cold or flu
- Nasal congestion from allergy or sinusitis
- Short term relief so that sleeping and feeding are easier
Common Side Effects
- Stinging or dryness inside the nose
- Sneezing straight after use
- Rebound blockage if used for too long
Precautions
Do not use for more than three to five days in a row. Longer use causes the nose to block again worse than before, a rebound effect that is difficult to break. People with high blood pressure, heart disease, glaucoma or thyroid problems should ask a doctor first, and drops are not suitable for young children unless a doctor advises them.
