GABAPENTIN

Gabapentin is used mainly for nerve-related pain and for certain types of epilepsy. It calms overactive nerve signals and is usually built up to the right dose gradually.

What Gabapentin Is Used For

• Nerve pain, such as after shingles or in diabetes
• Epilepsy, as part of seizure control
• Some other nerve-related conditions

Common Side Effects

• Drowsiness and dizziness
• Tiredness
• Mild swelling of the legs

Precautions

Gabapentin makes many people drowsy, particularly at the start or after a dose increase, so take care with driving until you know how it affects you. Do not stop it abruptly. Tell your doctor about any low mood or changes in mood, and keep antacids at least two hours apart from your dose.
