MEROPENEM

Meropenem is a strong antibiotic given by injection in hospital. It is used for serious infections, including those that other antibiotics cannot control.

• Serious chest, abdominal and blood infections
• Meningitis
• Infections caused by resistant bacteria

• Loose motions
• Nausea
• Pain or inflammation at the injection site

Precautions

Meropenem is given and monitored by hospital staff, and the dose is adjusted for kidney function. Tell the team about any previous reaction to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics. As a reserve antibiotic, it is used only for infections that genuinely need it.
